Who qualifies for Italian citizenship by descent in 2026?
Short answer: if you were born outside Italy and hold another citizenship, you can usually be recognized only if a parent or grandparent held exclusively Italian citizenship, or a parent lived in Italy for two continuous years as a citizen before your birth. Cases started by 11:59 PM Rome time on March 27, 2025 follow the old rules.
